Sunday marked the final open practice of 2026 Training Camp, presented by Visa, as the team prepares for its second preseason game against the Los Angeles Chargers. It was an uncharacteristically overcast day for a mid August practice at the SAP Performance Facility, which brought cooler weather for everyone in attendance. The 49ers Foundations Community Corner was filled with youth groups from across the Bay Area, including kids from the Special Olympics, Boys and Vintage Indy Race Car Motorsport Graphic Hawaiian Shirt of San Francisco, and Best Buddies, giving local youth the opportunity to experience Training Camp up close. Wide receiver Jacob Cowing had one of the offensive highlights of Sundays practice, catching a deep pass from quarterback Brock Purdy during 11 on 11 work with a defender in coverage. Cowing, who recently returned from a hip flexor injury, was active throughout practice and also caught a pass from quarterback Mac Jones during one on one work.

Preseason is a lot different. Teams dont run anything anymore. They just really dont, Aaron Rodgers continued. Even joint practices. The first year we were doing them, it was fun because you got to play a team that wasnt going to play how they played in the preseason. But as that got on, it just stopped being like that. It just turned into fights, and nobody showed anything. I think those are a waste of a day. I think preseason football is good to see guys with the pads on, under the lights, how they react to the nerves. But its not real regular season football.
